response to previous post re: curviness

in a response to my previous post, free-thought wrote:

So I’m like a size 3 and i don’t work for it.  I think it’s rude to say that small people TRY to look curvier, when dresses like that CLEARLY cover bumps and make “curvier” people look slimmer.  I don’t have a problem with people being curvy or anything, but i DO have a problem when curvy people insult thin people. It makes them seem jealous.

just to throw it out there, because i obviously have to: i have nothing against thin people. everything i typed in that post was essentially a regurgitation of years spent reading my mom’s cosmo, redbook and glamour magazines as a kid. it was also written for people who look at that image and get upset because they feel they are not meeting some arbitrary-ideal. it was not directed at you, or any other “naturally thin” person.

and for the record, yes! some thin people do try to look curvier. i have read far too many things addressing exactly that issue. am i crazy or do they not sell padded bras, bra inserts, water-bras and every other kind of ‘bump up your body’ add-on imaginable? people are getting butt-implants for fuck’s sake. in fact, i just found out that they sell padded underwear. read that again: padded. underwear.

on a personal level, i actually do find curvy and ‘thick’ women to be far more attractive and especially more awesome to draw. not everyone has to think single digit sizes are the ultimate.

oh, last thing- kinda technical. a lot of the tops of those dresses don’t actually smooth over bumps- especially not at the midsection. thin/stretch material is bad news, and structured/thick fabric is what actually DOES smooth out bumps. the bottom, sure. it’ll hide your hips a bit but it sure as hell won’t make you look “slimmer”. it will instead bring out a more defined hourglass shape, which is very attractive. there is a big difference!

i kind of can’t believe i had to write this.

partially related, but not part of previous thoughts: when someone talks about how they need to diet/lose weight or hate their one inch of belly chub- is that not an insult to all the people around them of larger size? it’s obnoxious! then they get all offended when you tell them that they look good/fine/beautiful. i don’t even know how to respond to shit like that anymore. all i can say is “oh, ok. good luck with that.” (and i hope you find whatever you’re looking for)
