tabular figures, indices and grades, oh my!
learned about three new things today.
- tabular figures: allows you keep a grid/column/table with numbers, change the weights of individual entries and still keep the grid. it basically changes weight while keeping the character width fixed. this is awesome.
- indices: i never considered looking for a typeface with encircled letters or numbers, i always just manually made them as i needed them. this is silly to not think of, but enlightening. (i also never knew they were called indices)
- grades: possibly the coolest of all three. so this is for when you are using the same font, in the same color, on both a light and dark background. grades allow you to choose a heavier version of the same weight for knocked out type, that is meant to look exactly the same as the lighter version. holy cow, that is amazing.
