fwarg makes an interesting point about how we feel the need to split/categorize ourselves into specific ‘channels’. e.g. having a blog just for your typography stuff, and one just for your drawings, and one for funny ramblings.
unfortunately, specific blogs are easier to market and gain popularity. they also fare way better in tumblr’s directory. (and any other category based directory, for that matter. i wonder which has influenced the other)
for example, humachine is very hard to categorize. i talk about tech, typography, design, cute stuff, i draw things, make things, talk about yarn, teach, make obscene jokes and do just about everything there is a category for on the directory. if i split myself up, i’d probably fare better there but fuck that. this blog is all of me, and i damn well like it that way.
on a related note, tagging exists. utilize it.
