a new issue with iphone apps?
so, a while back, i purchased the pro FML application so i could enjoy the misery of others without ads.
about a month ago, the app told me it would no longer support itself and i’d have to download this other ‘free’ app (it’s free, but you have to pay for the adfree version- again)
the app said they would allow people who purchased the old app within the last six months to get this for free. but that is not me. as of today, the old one no longer even pulls stories from the fml site. it is a dead, useless app.
is this really ok? do i have to worry about buying an app and then the makers just up and leaving to go make a slightly similar app that i will have to buy as well? marco, do you know anything about this?

this happens all the time in the video game industry. dedicated game servers paid for by the companies come and go all the time. it stinks.

it’s not good business, but they can do what they want with no regard for readers or users.

It’s unfortunately a risk that applies to any app that interacts with a web service. Services cost a lot of time and money to run.

How is it different than any other industry, where people who provide a service can decide to stop?

That’s just some BS

that’s complete robbery. its one thing if it is free, but if you pay for a product you are also paying for support from that company.
