and this isn’t just so that your devs don’t have to spend an extra hour fixing your files, it’s so you are providing your client with a solid, organized archive of design history that can be referenced and built upon later. it makes you accountable for that random twitter icon you found on some aggregated design blog, and the stock images you better have purchased. this is part of your job.
