What would you rather do, design or code?
CSSGlobe opens an interesting discussion with the question of which would you rather do, given the option for the rest of your life- design or code? They go over some of the basic pros/cons of each. Design is creative and fun, although you are usually never given the amount of freedom you’d like. Coding is less stressful in the sense that you are working towards a specific result. Less guesswork, but less appreciation from anyone who doesn’t speak your language.
Personally, if ever given such an awful ultimatum, I think I would have to give up code and stick with design. It almost hurt me to type that. I still love you notepad. Although, I can’t say I would miss Internet Explorer much…
Either way, it’s just a thought to entertain. We are web designers because we love the balance of design and code, together. To start with a blank canvas with no restrictions, refine it, and recreate it within a finite set of limitations- is a very rewarding process. It hits all those juicy, stimulating brain spots. Mmm…
