christmas memories

standing outside listening to “good king joy” by the trans siberian orchestra and was flooded with the most amazing memory from my childhood:

one year, before christmas, the three of us were decorating the tree and living room. it was a pretty big endeavor and would take most of the day. my mom brought out her yamaha keyboard (something that i ended up futzing with for years after this day) and she taught me how to play “joy to the world” in its most elementary form. that would be each key, in order going downwards, from C to C. i was so enthralled, i repeated it over and over and… over and over again. …until my parents very gently suggested that we put the keyboard away and that i not torture them any more. and so spurred my interest in piano/key-insturments that continues to this day :D
