kblair asked: re: your description of how you learned CSS. That was pretty much exactly how I learned CSS -- except with Neopets and HTMLGoodies. I didn't start till grade 7 because end of grade 7 was when we got a computer (2000). Thought it was great that that path is a common way for people to learn MAKING STUFF ON THE INTARWEBZ.

Client: “We’ve decided we need a warmer blue in our logo.”
Me: “Blue is a cool color.”
Client: “Well, just make it warmer, whatever that takes.”
Me: “It’s impossible. Blue either becomes green or purple.”
Client: “We don’t like either of those options. Just do your best to warm it up without changing it dramatically. You’re the designer. We know you can do it.”
to be fair,...
a new issue with iphone apps?
so, a while back, i purchased the pro FML application so i could enjoy the misery of others without ads.
about a month ago, the app told me it would no longer support itself and i’d have to download this other ‘free’ app (it’s free, but you have to pay for the adfree version- again)
the app said they would allow people who purchased the old app within the last six months...

i have:
seen 6 cats: two of them kittens! one of them offered to me to adopt!
made it to work in 35 minutes
watched a woman put on mascara, while standing, for about 4 stops on the train
stopped at the cupcake truck on my way to work and got breakfast

indeed.
a habit i picked up in college from my print-based professors was to do thumbnails. so my sketches usually start small and are extremely basic, just rectangles and lines. then i’ll move to a slightly larger size, with just a little more...

if you’re right on time, you’re late.

i love the pounding sound. i love that their songs are reminiscent of beat writing.
a dying part of the graphic arts
so, i work at a company that makes videos. that means lots of props. since it’s much easier to just make something like a giant fake ticket with custom text than edit/composite it in later, there’s lots of fun stuff to be made.
in the world of digital art/graphic-making, this is totally dying. why make something to photograph when you can just composite the image from assets on the...
strange things in the city
so this morning, my train was more empty than usual. there were a LOT more rifles than usual around penn station (which is terrifying, btw) and more police officers.
on my way home, there were policewomen demanding to see the tickets of people sitting down in the nj transit lobby. what the fuck? i have never seen that happen, ever. there were two of them, and they weren’t really asking...

disassembler-deactivated2011041 asked: Got another CSS question (more specific this time): The bg-color for the sidebar on my website is #fff, and the homepage has a tiled background, so it shows up. The bg-color for all other pages is #fff, so it doesn't show up. What declaration can I use to change the bg-color on all other pages, and keep it the same on the homepage?

disassembler-deactivated2011041 asked: How did you go about learning CSS? Classes, self-taught via online tutorials and forums, etc? I'm a self-taught beginner, got any tips or good advice?
Anonymous asked: do you know of any good blogs that have free crochet patterns? i know of creativeyarn.blogspot, but i'm looking for more creative patterns. p.s. i really like your cowl!

like questions about yarn or CSS or cute things, or cupcakes. i know a really good cupcake place. (it’s here, in case you were wondering)
my first cowl!
i only fucked up like, three of these before getting it right!
if you want to make your own, here’s how you do it:
i used lion’s brand worsted weight yarn, because it’s cheap/really soft, and a size H hook.
this pattern is worked in the round, so keep going in a spiral and don’t turn your work.
chain 64. starting in 2nd chain from hook, half double crochet (hdc)...
